Synopsis
Balsa as a skilled warrior was in her journey to condemned her past by saving people. In one moment, when she was in her journey, she saved a child that drowned in the river, and the boy, Chagum, actually was a second prince of that country. And then the queen invited her to spent the night the palace. When night came, the queen went to Balsa and then asked her to escape from the palace with Chagum, because her husband wanted to kill Chagum. And the adventure of Chagum and Balsa began there, as they tried to escaped from the palace and from the assassins that sent to kill them both.
Main Character
Balsa
A woman warrior that use spear as her weapon. A great character, unlikely another woman character in anime, she’s not a young 17 yrs old girl XD, but she was around thirty yrs old, looked mature and had experienced a harsh and tough life. Definitely one of my top ten favorite characters.
Chagum
A young prince that must face the cruel reality that his own father, the emperor, wanted to kill him, because he beared the water spirit egg, that brought a “drought sign” to the country. But her mother hired Balsa to protect Chagum, and escaped from the palace. In my opinion, Chagum greatly developed as a character till the end of series.
Review
Animation
Seirei’s animation imo was one of the best animations in its season. The art was so good, the character’s animation and the movement, the backgrounds, all of them was so great. And the quality of these animations was kept till the end of series. Well I didn’t know much about animation technique or style, so I can’t give you more detailed explanation other than the animation was one the best in my opinion.
Sound
The ending theme, Itoshii no Hito, is one of my favorite song and always in my playing list in winamp. And the sound in the animation matched well with the situation, movement, and I really enjoyed the sound in SnM.
Character
Well, I usually divide the characters only into two part, main character and supporting character. The main character, Balsa and Chagum, really developed well, and their background was described well too. And it’s normal for main characters had a greater development and focus. But one thing that made me shock, some of supporting characters were well developed too, and even short, we can really understand their circumstances, why they did that action, why they tought like that, all of them explained so well.
Story
The story pace was quite slow, and some of episodes really really slow and seemed dull to me. But this pace made we can understand well about the character, as their development and all things that related to them were not rushed. The base of the sory built up well, and this made the ending was good and natural.In other words, the story was great too, and I really enjoyed the story till the end XD.
